Another bill that needs our help

There is a bill in congress that is designed to reduce the lead content in toys etc. that children come in to contact with, very good idea but.......one of the main things in it states that this is for items that be mouthed or chewed by the child. Somehow this has got out of hand and has now affected the production and sales of youth bikes and ATV's which is crazy. Illinois House bill 3914, introduced by Rep. Mary Flowers

March 13th 2009 11am

I had a phone call from Bob Ward of Illinois A.B.A.T.E. and he confirmed that the bill in its original form is dead. What they are doing now is working with Rep. Flowers to set up rider education courses using DNR funds. We have volunteered to let them use Rocky Glen for courses in this area.

I received another article today and this one claims the bill is dead and even gives the vote numbers. But we are still not 100% sure that the bill is dead. I hve a call it to Bob Pistole who is mentioned in the article and also to Illinois A.B.A.T.E.
I will post more info as it is available.

There is confusion over the status of the bill. I visited Senator Dave Syversons office to try to get some information and they looked at the page where the bill is shown (see link below) and could not figure out what "Motion Do Pass - Lost" meant. As far as we can tell it is still in some sort of committee stage. We will update you as soon as we have any more information. The fight may not be over yet.

We are informed that the bill was voted down in Springfield this morning.
Thanks to eveyone for your concern and help.
