CURRENT NEWS.

4-18-10

Hello All Riders!!!

As we are now getting the 2010 season underway many are curious as to the current park conditions as well as plans for track rebuilding. We have many projects underway that we have already begun preparing for. Our Main projects are
1) The Island Mx Track rebuild
2) The upper track revamp at the end of the P-lot and
3) A noise abatement berm on the north side of the park near the neighborhoods out in the trails. Planning for these projects have been underway for the last several months and dirt work is set to begin within the next few weeks.

1) For the Island track we plan to grade the land with a slight slope tapering at the edges in attempt to reduce ponding of water during heavy rains. Our challenge on that track is that under the surface is solid bedrock therefore water does not drain through the ground.  After we have the surface properly graded, the dirt that was hauled in last fall (sitting on top of the hill) needs to be loaded into 6 wheel dumps and hauled onto the track and molded into features. We plan to build mostly tabletops and step-on/off's. This will be a 2-3 week project as we are limited in equipment.

2) For the tracks up top: contractors will be out this coming week giving estimates for fencing. We plan to fence off 2 separate tracks in that area. These will continue to be more along the lines of smaller scale novice tracks. One will be for ATV's only and the other will be for 2-wheel bikes only. Plan to see a gate opening on the 2-wheel track only as wide as handlebars to fit through. Along with this fenced area we are also installing new fence on the western property boundary as well as getting a new sliding entry gate. For this fencing project we have received assistance from the DNR OHV grant program. The money for this project comes from the DNR OHV Sticker sale program ($11 per year an available for purchase at the office) which we are a part of. Many have wondered what the money goes to for these stickers. This is one of the many projects this program helps fund.

3) Noise abatement berm: As many are aware we have steadily increased traffic here at the park. Our northern property boundary is on the edge of a subdivision which receives heavy noise and dust. Looking long term we need to build a rather large berm to help reduce noise mainly from making its way into those subdivisions. There is a construction project not far from the park that has 10,000 yards of fill that will be getting hauled in and dumped in that area. Any clean fill we come across will be placed on the tracks. Unfortunately most of the fill is mixed with rock which is obviously not the best to build a track with. But, lets hope we run into some clean fill.

These are the biggest projects that are underway. We hope this all gets completed in a timely fashion. It is a very slow moving process getting a park like this fully developed, after all this is only the beginning of our 5th season so its a work in progress. One thing is for certain though we would not be able to accomplish anything if it were not for loyal rider patronage and we are extremely thankful to everybody that supports our park. I will try to keep everyone informed on where we are at with the work being done and will be sure to send out an email when it is completed.

Thanks and see everyone soon!
